Corrosive Substance Storage Cabinet – 250 Litre

At Spill Station, our Metal Corrosive Cabinets are an ideal choice if your workplace stores dangerous goods and keeps them on site. These cabinets have many safety elements built into their design features, and are made to withstand fire and protect corrosives from unwanted exposure by keeping them contained.

If you carry Class 8 materials such as Nitric Acid, Sulphuric Acid and Phenol as well as other such dangerous liquids, you should have corrosive resistant cabinets on hand to store them safely. At Spill Station, we pride ourselves in cabinets that are fully compliant to the Australian standards AS3780, which is the standard for Safe Storage of Corrosive Substances.

The Features of A Spill Station Cabinet

Each cabinet at Spill Station is made from powder coated steel and has a polyethylene tray on each shelf to collect any spills that may occur.  In addition to keeping the corrosives safe, the cabinets also allow you to store incompatible chemicals away from each other, such as strong acids and bases. It’s important to know that mixing incompatible substances in a substance storage cabinet together is a breach of the Australian Standards.

In addition, our cabinets are all made in the appropriate blue tone, with relevant signage to help visitors and workers know what is held within the cabinet, as well as the total amount of liquids that can be in the cabinet.

At Spill Station, we offer cabinets with the following features:

  • Self closing doors.
  • Sequentially closing doors.
  • Continuous smooth closure due to piano hinges.
  • Built in ground connector.
  • Fully welded 150mm deep sump that’s liquid tight.
  • Fitted with ventilation ducts and flame arrestors.
  • Paint is baked enamel and lead free.
  • Has polyethylene storage trays.

FAQs

Steel is a uniquely useful material as it is strong, durable and non-combustible, making it perfect for chemical storage cabinets, fireproof cabinets and corrosive cabinets. These cabinets feature things like double walled steel construction and a thermic air barrier, which prevents the chemicals stored from being exposed to heat and flames in the event of a fire.

From the above you can tell that these coated steel cabinets are designed to be a durable, long-term solution for the storage of corrosive liquids and agents.

Steel cabinets are used to store Class 8 substances, and so they have the following design features and benefits associated with them.

Durable steel construction: our cabinets have double walled sheet steel construction along with a 40mm thermic air barrier.

Powder Coat Finish: this allows for durability and protection inside and outside the cabinet.

Sequential Closing Doors: the doors close in sequence and are held by a stainless steel pin.

Door Close System: the doors are self-closing, tight fitting and are held shut by catches at two points.

Adjustable Shelving: the shelves are fully adjustable and made in steel with perforation for free air movement and can be adjusted in 100mm increments.

Shelf Spill Trays: there are PVC spill trains to prevent corrosion from leaking chemicals.

Spill Containment: there is a liquid tight sump that’s 150mm deep to contain and leaks that may happen.

In general, Class 8 chemicals are the only ones that should be stored in the corrosive cabinet. The best bet are corrosives with a pH level close to neutral such as hypochlorous acid, sodium bicarbonate and sodium chloride to name a few.

Plastic or poly cabinets are great as they often withstand heavy acids and bases for a long time, but they do discolour over time and are much more costly than steel cabinets are.

Steel cabinets are great for those who have a stricter budget, or need more cabinets of more sizes.  The issue with steel cabinets can be if you don’t care for them properly and the surface breaks. This will cause the chemical fumes to oxidise the metal and rapid rusting will occur. So consider the maintenance of this type of cabinet.

Yes there are, the largest requirement is ventilation.  Wherever corrosive substances are stored, the area needs to be well ventilated, and anywhere the corrosive substance poses an inhalation hazard, air monitoring has to occur.

On top of all of this, the cabinet must be inspected for leaks, spills, rusting, breaking or structural issues. This way, you can keep the cabinet working for longer, and protect your investment in the safety device, as well as your workplace, and the environment.

There is a reason Spill Station is so trusted in the safety industry, we are the leading distributor in Australia, after all. Our team of experts are well versed on corrosive cabinets, so you can chat to us anytime with any questions you may have and we will do our best to give you the information and services you need.
