In 1980 the Australian Army gave Spill Station Australia a brief for a portable bunding product that they could use in the field to conduct petrol, oil and lubrication operations in compliance with emerging environment protection regulations. They required this unit to have no external trip hazards, have no parts to assemble, be suitable for use with a wide range of hydrocarbons and be able to withstand rigorous field testing only the Army can provide.

Later that same year, Army accepted delivery of the first fully self contained temporary bund system ever made in Australia and it was named the QuickBund. Read More

In the decades since that first order, Spill Station Australia has manufactured thousand of QuickBunds in our Australian manufacturing centre. Spill Station Aust has applied improvements in geomembrane technology to the QuickBund in that time but the simplicity and elegance of the original design has had no reason to change.

All of these Australian made collapsible bunding systems are manufactured using high-frequency welding. Unlike simple heat welding, high-frequency welding vibrates the molecules of the two layers so fast that they meld into a single piece. This method ensures the highest possible strength seams available.

In addition to the outstanding chemical resistance, the advanced geomembrane used to construct these temporary bunds provides superior physical strength. With a heavy duty 1017gsm it demonstrates outstanding seam and tear strength as well as abrasion resistance.

The unique design of the Quickbund portable bunding system means that no assembly is required and the unit is fully operational in minutes. The first step is to indentify and area firm enough to hold the weight of what is being held in the temporary bund and remove any large sharp objects. Then it is a matter of simply positioning and unfolding the bund.

Because the QuickBund collapsible bund has fold down walls, you are able to roll anything with wheels into the containment area from hand trolleys to semi-trailers.

Spill Station Australia hold 10 stock sizes from a 1,000L pallet sized unit all the way up to 24,700L unit suitable for storage of an isotainer. If you find you have a requirement outside of the stock standard range, Spill Station Australia can manufacture to suit your exact requirements.

There are a range of accessories available to extend the application of these portable bunds to a wider range of environments and uses.

When storing hydrocabons in areas where significant rain events occur, the portable oil/water separator is the ideal companion product. This unique product attaches through the wall of the temporary bund and drains out all of the liquids in the bund. The polypropylene microfibres absorb all of the hydrocarbon and allow the water to pass. If there is a catostophic failure of a primary container in the portable bund, the filter will block allowing the spilled liquid to be safety retrieved. Replacement filters are available.

The puncture resistant underblanket is also and ideal addition to the QuickBund. This tough geotextile material will protect the portable bund in rough terrain and extent the QuickBund life.

Vibration absorbent nitrile pads are ideal when mounting pumps and generators and prevent the abrasion damage caused by vibrating machinery.

Whatever your bunding requirement, Spill Station Australia will have the solution that id right for you.

FAQs

Bunding is a type of spill containment that is very useful for any workplace that stores hazardous chemicals, oils or liquids. Bunding is like a retaining wall -the sides act as a barrier to contain spills while being low enough to allow for vehicle access. The bunding is built to be able to contain the latest possible spill that could occur in a certain area.

There are various bunding products available on the market, including bunded pallets, rubber floor bunding, temporary bunding and portable bunding. Each different type comes with its own applications and advantages - the best type for you will depend on the needs of your specific work environment and the volume and type of liquids that you have on-site.

Portable bunding works like any other form of bunding - its purpose is to catch spills or leaks and prevent them from running into the environment. The benefit of portable bunding is that it can be installed wherever and wherever you need it, very quickly. Portable bunding can be packed away and stored until it is required. Our bunding is light yet highly durable and can go from packed away to functional in under 10 minutes. The compact and portable size makes it easy to transport as required between worksites or to new locations within your workplace.

Portable bunding allows you to create spill containment anywhere you need it in a matter of minutes. Portable bunding will allow you to manage liquid storage and transfer, whilst ensuring that you meet compliance and protect the environment and your employees. Portable bunding can contain vast amounts of liquid in any suitable location - making it a versatile solution for spill containment. At Spill Station, our portable bunding is made from the best quality and most chemically resistant materials, so that you can rest assured all spills will be contained safely.

There are a number of things that you can consider when determining whether you need bunding - just some of the questions to consider include:

  1. What liquids are you storing? What are the potential environmental impacts if a spill occurs? If you store liquids near drains or bodies of water, they need to be bunded
  2. How much liquid are you storing? Bunding can prevent large spills and reduce clean up
  3. Is your workplace equipped to handle your largest possible spill? Combining spill kits with bunding will ensure that you meet compliance and do your due diligence
  4. How long will your liquids be stored? Liquid storage containers degrade over time, so the risk of spills increases the longer you have them

If you have any other questions about our portable bunding (AKA collapsible bunding), don’t hesitate to get in touch. At Spill Station, we have a wide range of bunding and other spill containment solutions available to help your workplace stay safe, efficient and compliant.
