For increased durability on unsealed and unprepared surfaces, puncture resistant geotextile underblankets are available.
If generators or pumps are mounted inside the portable bund, anti vibration nitrile pads can be added to the package.
A passive oil/water filter can be added if storing hydrocarbons in exposed areas. The addition of the filter will allow all rain water to drain out of the portable bund but trap 99.8% of hydrocarbons.
What is portable bunding?
Portable bunding, also known as a collapsible bund, is a flexible and cost-effective bunding option. These bunds can be used for permanent or temporary spill containment, both indoors and outdoors.
Due to their manoeuvrable, lightweight design, these portable bunds are commonly used in remote sites and even in more permanent spaces.
How do I know what bunding I need?
The usual procedure to know what safety needs your workplace has is to conduct a risk assessment, and this goes for bunding as well. Usually, what bunding you will need depends on the type of liquid your workplace handles, how much of this liquid your workplace handles, and the length of time these liquids are held on-site. On top of these factors you need to know if a leak happened, would it harm the environment or other workers?
If this all sounds daunting, Spill Station can help you conduct these risk assessments with an expert touch.
What can portable bunds be used for?
Oftentimes any chemical container, including IBCs, drums and ISO tanks can be protected from spills with the use of a portable bund. In addition to this equipment and vehicles such as trucks, cars and heavy machinery can be parked on a collapsible bund. This means staff can carry out repairs, washdowns and re-fuelling as safely as possible.
